The Most Difficult GCSE Physics Topics

Where marks are most often lost, and how to win them back.

Electricity

Current, potential difference and resistance are abstract, and series and parallel rules are easy to confuse. Draw every circuit, label what you know, and apply one rule at a time.

Forces and motion

Interpreting distance-time and velocity-time graphs, and applying Newton's laws in context, trips up many students. Practise describing in words what a graph shows before doing any calculation.

Equations and rearranging

A large share of marks depends on selecting, rearranging and substituting into equations with correct units. Build a personal equation sheet and test yourself on it weekly.

Extended answers

Six-mark questions reward a logical sequence of linked points. Plan three or four bullet points before writing, and use the scientific vocabulary from the specification.
